On Saturday, 18 April 2026, the Integrata Foundation presented the 2026 Wolfgang Heilmann Prize at the Export Akademie Baden-Württemberg in Tübingen.
It was an intensive day centred on the question: How can AI enable genuine participation? The focus was on four nominated projects that demonstrate how artificial intelligence can strengthen democratic participation:
‘EasyLearner’: an app for AI-supported, personalised political education
‘VoteRookie’: an AI-supported project to encourage young people’s participation in democratic processes and strengthen their media and AI literacy
‘Democracy Intelligence’: An approach to fact-based evaluation of political statements for greater transparency in public discourse
‘DiscoBoard’: An application designed to promote media and democratic literacy through explainable AI
Congratulations to the winner, VoteRookie (Link: https://voterookie.org/ ). This project from Freiburg demonstrates how democracy can be strengthened by combining AI applications, events, face-to-face interactions and on-the-ground work with mentors.
